Do you have a great idea for a class project, a field trip or a new curriculum? Do you dream of purchasing new software or equipment for your classroom, developing an after-school program for gifted students, or bringing an innovative speaker to your school? When your division just doesn’t have the money to make your dreams come true, what are you as a teacher to do?

Some Rockbridge County Schools teachers and administrators have discovered that outside funding, in the form of educational grants, can provide the answer, and since 2005, the Rockbridge County Public Schools Foundation has done just that.

Grant writing for the Foundation is designed to be easy, and support exists to help you write your grant. By pursuing a grant, not only will you have a shot at making your teaching dream come true but also to add grant writing to your professional tool box and to work with your administration, Foundation volunteers and even local businesses to provide your students with an innovative experience.

Details about how to get started can be found on the Foundation’s grant application. Kathy Burant, chair of the Allocations Committee and a former teacher and administrator, is a great resource regarding the process and how to be successful. Contact Kathy at

Thank you for your creativity, imagination, diligence, and commitment to your students and Rockbridge County Schools. We truly appreciate your efforts on behalf of our community and for the impact you make on our students!
